VALDY A HIT AT GRANDVIEW STAGE
Valdy has entertained us at Grandview Stage twice previously, so when we heard he was looking for another venue on his current
visit to Alberta, we jumped at the chance to have him here again this past Sunday evening. And we’re so glad we did.
The distinction of an entertainer vs a performer is that the former brings a delight to the audience that is lacking with the latter. One can say of a performer that they were very good in some aspect or other. But there is no doubt about the feeling one gets from being entertained…and everyone knows that difference intuitively, even though we may struggle to define it. Valdy is definitely and most emphatically an entertainer and he showed us the difference Sunday evening.
At 65 years young, Valdy still performs over 200 gigs a
year, and it’s abundantly clear that he relishes every minute of it. Would that all of us should have careers we
are as happy with as Valdy is with his (or is it that he decides to be?). Whichever, Valdy considers himself a very
fortunate fellow, and we consider ourselves fortunate as well that he continues
to share his music and love of life with all of us. Singing several of his own well-known
favourites as well as tunes he loves from other performers, Valdy calls on a
career he began in the 60’s in coffee houses and pubs on Vancouver Island. Fame in the way of gold records and a couple
of Junos’ came Valdy’s way via tunes such as “Play Me a Rock N Roll Song”,
“Peter and Lou” and many others immediately recognized by the appreciative
crowd. A master of the acoustic guitar,
Valdy is an animated and energetic performer who has an ability to establish a
heartfelt and close relationship with his audience that makes for a relaxing
evening of good old fashioned fun. Thanks
for a great evening, Valdy.
We have a fun-filled summer of outdoor concerts coming your
way at Grandview Stage. On Saturday,
June 25, we kick things off with an Alberta Showcase event featuring well-known
singer / composer / picker extraordinaire Allen Christie, a great female duet
“Myrol”, Edmonton balladeer and troubadour Scott Cook, and a special guest
fiddler from Norway, Britt Pernille Frohm, all in the same evening show! Should be lots of fun, and for $20 you can’t
go wrong.
Fred Eaglesmith returns to regale you with his songs,
stories and humour on Thursday, July 14.
Fred has over 20 albums to his credit, and his songs have been covered
by the likes of Toby Keith. Fred showed
up on David Letterman’s show last year.
If you haven’t seen him, you owe it to yourself. Fred will be appearing with his full band,
and the Ginn Sisters, a great act themselves.
Australian country stars Jetty Road return to Grandview
Stage on August 2. You get to see them
here instead of braving hoards of crazies at the Big Valley Jamboree, where
they play the prior weekend! This is a
tight band with high energy and unique original tunes that bounce around in
your head for days afterwards. Ask
anyone who’s seen them here before, they are a band you won’t want to miss.
All our summer concerts are outside so bring your
lawnchairs. We do have tents set up in
case of rain. Beverages are sold on site
(no byob), and buffet dinner is available separately before the shows. All shows start at 7:30 at Grandview
Stage. Call 403-845-6404 for show
tickets, and check out www.grandviewstage.com
for any additional shows and updates.
Keep them toes a tappin’
